Toddler Closet Organization

I was excited for many things when we purchased our home and my toddler having his own room was one of the biggest! Gone were the days where his toys filled the entire living room and I now had the space to store everything! The closets in our home are average size with a single door and I had a pretty difficult time trying to figure out how exactly to execute the organization. With the single door, it would be hard to utilize very inch while also making it accessible. I searched high and low for inspo, but ended up having to be creative! So I’m sharing what I did to hopefully help anyone stuck.

Shoe Organization

My son, Kaelen, doesn’t have many shoes since he usually wears shoes that fit his AFOs, but he still needed a little organization. I found this affordable shoe organizer from Target and immediately added it to my cart. It has two tiers for storage and was very quick and easy to assemble. It was slightly longer than the depth of our top shelf, but it still worked great for the amount of shoes we needed to store.

Toy Organization

I wanted storage that could hold clear bins of toys so he could have a better view of his toy options and storage that could be accessible without taking everything out due to the narrow closet space. I decided on these small bookshelves from Target. Since the shelves were a bit narrow this required me to find bins with a more narrow depth. Luckily, I found some that have worked so well for us from Target and Hobby Lobby (flip top bins) and Kaelen is constantly going to his closet for toys.

I setup two so one could have extra backup storage for miscellaneous items. I also added a basket to keep care items like lotions and creams for access when we need them. I do wish his closet had an extra shelf on the bottom, but the top of the shelves work as a great alternative for now!

Extra Items

Kaelen has racked up a bit of stuffed animals, so I found a cloth bin to store them at the top of the closet and I love how it came out! He currently does not play with all the stuffed animals, but it’s nice to keep them to alternate out if he changes his mind! I found his particular cloth bin and hamper at Burlington, but found a few other options that could work. I think cloth bins are awesome for seasonal clothing storage, extra stuffed animals, or maybe toys that may not be of age or interest quite yet!

Overall, I think the closet came together better than I imagined. The organization also makes it very easy when it’s time to clean and the best part is how much my son loves to go and search for his favorite toys! Check out the process and the final transformation on my Instagram!
